Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first in the first Test against Australia at the SCG on Friday.
Sharma said that the pitch was good for batting but it would not change much during the course of the game. He added that India would go with four seamers and one spinner, Ravindra Jadeja.
Sharma said that it was tough to leave out Ravichandran Ashwin, but the team management felt that it was the right decision considering the conditions.
India made one change to their playing XI, bringing in Ajinkya Rahane for KS Bharat. Rahane has more than 80 Test caps to his name and is expected to add experience to the batting line-up.
Australia also made one change, bringing in Cameron Green for Mitchell Swepson. Green is a pace-bowling all-rounder who has been in good form in recent months.
